The short answer
To park in Sweden, read the main sign and every tilläggstavla until the regulated area ends. Black or white times without brackets generally cover weekdays, bracketed times the day before a Sunday or public holiday, and red times Sundays and public holidays. Also check arrows, vehicle type, maximum duration, fees, street cleaning and local rules: successful payment never proves that parking is permitted.
Read from top to bottom
The P permits parking, but plates below can restrict duration, vehicles, days or payment.
An arrow marks the beginning, continuation or end of a rule along the street.
Check the zone entrance too because some rules apply without being repeated at every bay.
| In Swedish | What it means | When you use it |
|---|---|---|
| Gäller parkeringen på söndagar? | Does the parking rule apply on Sundays? | |
| Var betalar jag parkeringsavgiften? | Where do I pay the parking fee? |
Understand three lines of times
The first unbracketed line usually covers weekdays other than the day before a Sunday or public holiday.
Bracketed times cover those preceding days; red times cover Sundays and public holidays.
When a line is absent, do not invent a schedule: reread the complete sign and local rules.
Payment and evidence
Enter the correct zone and registration number, then check the end time before leaving the app.
Keep confirmation, but remember that payment does not override a prohibition or maximum duration.
A parking disc must be set as instructed for that location.
Before leaving the car
Photograph the complete sign assembly and car position when the rule is complex.
Check street cleaning, datumparkering, charging points and overnight restrictions.

Questions people ask
- Do bracketed times mean the weekend?
- They generally mean the day before a Sunday or public holiday, often Saturday but not only Saturday.
- Does payment in the app prove I may park?
- No. Street signs and local rules still determine whether parking is legal.
- Why photograph the signs?
- A complete view helps you interpret the rule later and document the situation if you appeal.
