The short answer
The main Swedish frequency adverbs are alltid, ofta, ibland, sällan and aldrig. In a neutral main clause, they usually follow the finite verb: Jag tränar ofta. In a subordinate clause, they move before the verb: eftersom jag ofta tränar.

| In Swedish | What it means | When you use it |
|---|---|---|
| Jag dricker ofta kaffe på morgonen. | I often drink coffee in the morning. | Describing a common habit. |
In a main clause, the verb stays second
In Jag tränar ofta, the subject comes first, the finite verb remains second and the adverb follows it. Start with a time and the order becomes På måndagar tränar jag ofta.

In a subordinate clause, the adverb precedes the verb
After eftersom, när, om or att, put the adverb before the finite verb: eftersom jag ofta tränar. The contrast is the same as it is with inte.
