Etableringsprogrammet benefits changed in September

The main daily amount rises, two supplements close and a new child supplement appears. The first changed payment for September is made in October.

The short answer

For participants in etableringsprogrammet, the daily allowance previously paid at SEK 308 rises to SEK 335 for September 2026, claimed and paid in October, while the SEK 231 level stays unchanged. Etableringstillägg and bostadsersättning can no longer be newly claimed after 1 September, but a monthly barntillägg is available for children under 20 who live at home.

September is claimed in October

The timing causes much of the confusion. The change covers participation in September 2026, but the application and payment occur in October. A September bank statement does not show the new amount yet.

The SEK 308 daily level rises to SEK 335. The SEK 231 level remains unchanged. These figures concern etableringsersättning for participation in Arbetsförmedlingen's establishment programme.

Försäkringskassan pays the money; Arbetsförmedlingen manages participation. A question about a missed activity and a question about the payment go to different places.

Two earlier supplements close

After 1 September 2026, no new application can be made for etableringstillägg or bostadsersättning. If an existing decision covers a period, Försäkringskassan says payment continues for the entire period written in that decision.

The distinction between a new claim and an existing decision is crucial. The end of a benefit does not instantly cancel every decision already granted.

Keep the decision, not only the payment record. Its start and end dates show whether the protected period continues.

The new child supplement

The monthly barntillägg is SEK 400 for each child under 11 living at home and SEK 750 for each child aged 11 to 19. It may be doubled when no other legal guardian is registered in Sweden and the parents do not live together.

Each guardian applies separately every month. It is neither automatic nor a once-a-year claim. September 2026 is the first claim period, submitted in October.

Prepare each child's identity, address and the other guardian's situation before opening the service. Those facts drive the amount.

Check the decision before calling

Verify the claim month, participation days and every listed child. A change in the programme can alter the payment.

If the amount surprises you, compare the utbetalningsbesked with the decision and ask which line explains the difference, giving the month and case number.

The programme is not the same as SFI even when they overlap. Our Arbetsförmedlingen guide puts the responsibilities in order.

Alongside the payment, check what changes in SFI from 2027 and, when employment supports the permit, the current work permit salary threshold.

How to register with Arbetsförmedlingen, and what it is not

Most people register with Arbetsförmedlingen because something else asked them to, not because they expect it to find them work. Here is what registering is called in Swedish, the four words the process runs on, and why the agency is not the a-kassa.
