The short answer
Skolverket has adopted new syllabuses and study paths for SFI. They formally entered into force on 15 August 2026, but must be used for education beginning after 31 December 2026. Current students therefore do not all switch in August, and the syllabus reform does not mean a new national test appears in autumn 2026 or that courses B, C and D immediately disappear.
Two dates are doing different jobs
15 August 2026 is when the rules entered into force. 1 January 2027 is when they must be used for education starting after 31 December. A rule can therefore exist before it governs your class.
Ask which kursplan your school uses and the date it considers your education to have begun. The letter printed on your course does not answer either question.

What actually changes
Skolverket rewrote the SFI syllabuses and study paths under a government assignment and is preparing implementation support for providers.
This does not make delivery identical in every municipality. Schedules, providers and class formats remain locally organised, so two students under the same syllabus can still have very different weeks.
Ask for your individual study plan and planned progression. The national text does not replace the school's explanation of your actual route.

No new national test in autumn 2026
Skolverket says no new national SFI test series will be released in autumn 2026. Schools can use series 6 to 10 within their authorised windows, and two new tests are expected in spring 2027.
The national test supports grading at the end of courses B, C and D. It is not a stand-alone certificate exam that anyone can freely book.
Do not confuse it with the citizenship civics test either. The two tests have different authorities and purposes.

Three questions for your school
Ask: Vilken kursplan följer jag? Which syllabus am I following? När började min utbildning enligt skolan? When does the school consider my education to have started? Ändras min individuella studieplan? Will my individual study plan change?
Those answers show whether the reform affects you now, later or only in a future course.
The underlying strategy remains the same: school provides structure and certification; daily practice provides repetition. Each solves a different problem.
Starting or resuming studies often also means reporting a Swedish change of address. If you work alongside the course, the 2026 work permit salary threshold is a separate rule.
