The short answer
As of 12 September 2026, UHR has published no pass mark, no duration and no question count for the next sittings, no dates or cities for them, and no fee for any sitting before 2027. Its own page says that information about test duration, the number of questions, the next sitting and the registration fee will come. The regulation fixes 2 000 kronor per sitting applying from 2027, with an exemption for stateless people holding refugee status or a travel document issued by a Swedish authority, and the sitting of 15 August 2026 was free. Any site that gives you a number for the other five is giving you something an authority has not said.
One: the pass mark
There is none published. The first sitting, on 15 August 2026, was run as a pilot with close to a thousand people, and SVT reported that the threshold had not been set and that UHR planned to analyse the results during the autumn before announcing it. UHR's questions and answers page describes the same thing: the threshold is set after the sitting, with results published in October.
That is not an administrative delay to read around. A pass mark set after a calibration sitting is a normal way to build a standardised test, and the number does not exist until the analysis is done. Nobody has it, including the people who will eventually publish it.
So a practice score is practice, on this site and on every other. We say so on every page of our own section, and the honest version of the sentence is short: there is no score to reach because nobody has set one.
| In Swedish | What it means | When you use it |
|---|---|---|
| gränsen för godkänt | the pass threshold | The phrase to search on uhr.se once it exists. It does not yet. |
| Provet var ett pilotprov. | The test was a pilot test. | What the August 2026 sitting was, which is why no threshold accompanied it. |
Two: how long it lasts and how many questions
UHR's page on the test says, word for word, that information about test duration and the number of questions for the next sitting will come. That is the whole published state of the matter.
One number is sourced and it is sourced narrowly. SVT reported around sixty multiple-choice questions with four options at the sitting of 15 August 2026. That is one sitting, described as a pilot, and it is not a promise about the next one.
A ninety minute figure circulates on commercial preparation sites. We have found it on no official source, which is the reason it is on our list of things we do not state rather than in a sentence of our own.
| In Swedish | What it means | When you use it |
|---|---|---|
| provtid | the time allowed for the test | The word on UHR's page in the sentence saying the information will come. |
| antal frågor | number of questions | The other half of the same unanswered sentence. |
| Hur lång tid tar provet? | How long does the test take? | A reasonable question with no published answer. Ask UHR rather than a forum. |
Three: the next dates and where
Not announced. UHR says information about the next sitting in civics will come, and as of 12 September 2026 its registration was closed with no date attached.
This one has a second layer that is easy to miss. Even a published date does not mean you can book it, because registration opens only to people Migrationsverket has written to. The gate is the letter, not the calendar.
The practical consequence is that preparation cannot be timed against an exam date, so it has to be timed against your own weeks instead. That is annoying, and it is also the only honest way to plan right now.
| In Swedish | What it means | When you use it |
|---|---|---|
| provtillfälle | a sitting, an occasion when the test is held | The word to search on uhr.se for the next date. |
| Anmälan öppnar senare. | Registration opens later. | The state of things, in one sentence. |
Four: the fee, and five: the retake rule
The fee has a published half and an unpublished half. Förordning (2026:451), issued 30 April 2026, sets 2 000 kronor per sitting, applying to tests held from 2027, and exempts stateless people who hold refugee status or a travel document issued by a Swedish authority. What is not published is the fee for any sitting held before 2027. The August 2026 sitting was free, and UHR's page still says information about the registration fee will come.
The retake rule is in the same state. Reporting on the pilot mentioned that participants in it could sit again, presented as specific to that sitting. What the rule will be for ordinary sittings, how often you may repeat and whether you pay each time, is not something UHR has published.
Both of these matter to a household budget, which is exactly why they attract invented answers. A number in kronor is easy to write and hard for a reader to check.
| In Swedish | What it means | When you use it |
|---|---|---|
| anmälningsavgift | registration fee | The word on UHR's page, in the sentence saying the information is still to come. |
| Vad kostar provet? | What does the test cost? | Answerable from 2027 onwards, and not before. |
| skriva om provet | to sit the test again | The Swedish for retaking it. Worth knowing before you ask the question. |
Why answering anyway is how bad information spreads
A guess written in a confident sentence stops looking like a guess after one copy. A preparation site publishes ninety minutes, an aggregator repeats it without the hedge, a forum answer cites the aggregator, and within a month a reader meets the number three times from three apparently separate places. Three sightings of one invention read like corroboration.
The damage is not abstract here. Somebody plans a revision schedule around a duration that does not exist, budgets for a fee that has not been set, or reads a practice score against a pass mark nobody published and concludes they are ready. The reader whose file is in play is the one who pays for the sentence that was easier to write than to check.
The test for a source is simple and it takes ten seconds. Does the claim name the page it came from, and does it carry that page's own date? A sentence like the one about 2 000 kronor from 2027 can be traced to a regulation issued on 30 April 2026. A sentence about ninety minutes traces to nothing.
That is also why the boundary between the authorities is worth holding on to: UHR publishes what it has decided, Migrationsverket decides cases, and confusing the two produces most of the bad advice in circulation. The three dates that are actually written into the law are a good place to see the difference between settled and rumoured: three dates, one of which has happened.
| In Swedish | What it means | When you use it |
|---|---|---|
| Var står det? | Where does it say that? | The question to ask any site, and any friend, quoting a number to you. |
| Senast uppdaterad | Last updated | The line at the bottom of a Swedish authority page. It is the date that makes the page quotable. |
| Information kommer. | Information will come. | UHR's own phrasing for everything on this page. It means not decided, not hidden. |
What is settled, so you can tell the difference
The knowledge requirements are law and apply from 6 June 2026, according to Migrationsverket's announcement of 5 June 2026, and pending applications are assessed under them too.
The test is in Swedish, on paper, multiple choice with four options of which one is correct, according to UHR's page as updated on 17 August 2026. UHR produces, develops and runs it and decides its result, under the regulation issued on 30 April 2026, while Migrationsverket decides who may sit it.
The study material is free from UHR, as a PDF and as fourteen audio files, one per chapter, per its page updated on 12 August 2026. That is enough to prepare with, and it is the part that is not waiting on an announcement, which is why a revision plan works without a sitting date.

Questions people ask
- What is the pass mark for the medborgarskapsprov?
- None has been published. The sitting of 15 August 2026 was a pilot used to set the threshold afterwards, with UHR analysing results during the autumn and publishing them in October. Any percentage quoted to you today comes from somewhere other than UHR.
- How long is the citizenship test and how many questions does it have?
- Not published for the next sittings. UHR's page says information about test duration and the number of questions will come. Around sixty questions with four options is reported for the pilot sitting of 15 August 2026, and for that sitting only.
- When is the next sitting?
- No date is published. UHR says information about the next sitting in civics will come, and registration was closed as of 12 September 2026. Registration in any case opens only to people Migrationsverket has written to.
- How much does the test cost?
- Förordning (2026:451) sets 2 000 kronor per sitting, applying from 2027, with an exemption for stateless people holding refugee status or a travel document issued by a Swedish authority. No fee has been published for sittings before 2027, and the August 2026 sitting was free.
- Can I retake the test if I fail?
- There is no published rule for ordinary sittings. Reporting on the pilot of 15 August 2026 described a possibility of sitting again as specific to that occasion. How retakes will work afterwards has not been set out by UHR.
- Why do other sites give exact numbers for these?
- Because a number is easier to publish than a source. Check whether a claim names the page it came from and carries that page's own date. The 2 000 kronor figure traces to a regulation issued on 30 April 2026. The ninety minute figure traces to nothing we could find.
